Abstract
Economics: Thoughts on Development by M. Azizur Rahman presents a comprehensive and critical examination of development economics with particular emphasis on the challenges faced by developing and least developed countries. The book explores key development concepts such as economic growth, poverty, inequality, human development, governance, globalization, trade, and the role of institutions in shaping development outcomes. Drawing on theoretical perspectives as well as real-world experiences especially from South Asian and developing economies the author analyzes the limitations of conventional growth-centric models and advocates for a more inclusive, sustainable, and people-centered approach to development. The work highlights the importance of ethical governance, social justice, human capital formation, and policy coherence in achieving long-term economic progress. This book serves as a valuable resource for students, researchers, policymakers, and development practitioners seeking a deeper understanding of development economics from both theoretical and applied perspectives.
