Abstract

Prof. Dr. M. Azizur Rahman explores the relationship between education and socio-economic progress, asserting that education and "smartness" enable individuals to raise their standard of living. He observes that middle-class families in Bangladesh, despite having limited land, are often more successful in raising ambitious and accomplished children because they prioritize education as a tool for social mobility. Conversely, children from wealthy or political families may acquire status easily, but those from humble backgrounds must rely on talent and hard work. The author identifies poverty, lack of finance, and geographical disparities in the distribution of quality institutions as major hurdles. He particularly highlights the "superstition" and lack of willingness that hinder girls' education and calls for government initiatives to ensure equitable access to quality education across all regions.
