Abstract
The article "Environment Dhaka and Flood Flow Zones" published in The Daily Sun on 21.12.2010 investigates the critical relationship between Dhaka’s rapid urbanization and its diminishing flood flow zones. It highlights how unplanned construction, encroachment on wetlands, and inadequate drainage systems have disrupted natural water channels, exacerbating flooding risks in the city. The article analyzes the environmental and socio-economic consequences of this imbalance, including waterlogging, infrastructure damage, and public health hazards. It also reviews existing policies and calls for stricter enforcement of land-use regulations, restoration of floodplains, and sustainable urban planning to enhance Dhaka’s resilience to climate change and monsoon floods.
