Inefficiency in allocation Management Influencing Poverty

Abstract

This article examines the persistent poverty and low developmental indicators across South Asian nations, including Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Dr. M. Azizur Rahman argues that despite some improvements in health services and life expectancy, the region suffers from significant "inefficiency in allocation management," which hampers economic growth. The author highlights low domestic savings, high infant mortality, and high levels of child malnutrition compared to global standards. The text provides a comparative analysis of GDP growth rates, gross domestic savings, and sector contributions (agriculture, industry, and services) across SAARC countries. Rahman concludes that to alleviate poverty, policy objectives must shift toward improving international trade positions, fostering a favorable balance of payments, increasing capital formation, and ensuring higher average GDP per capita to improve the overall quality of life.
