Environmental Friendly Cultivation Method and Profitable Agricultural Marketing -How Far being ImPlementing in Bangladesh

Abstract

This study investigates why farmers in Bangladesh are not eager to adopt environmentally friendly cultivation methods and how they are being deprived of their expected profits. Most farmers rely on conventional farming practices using hybrid seeds and chemical fertilizers in an effort to maximize yield and ensure a healthy profit margin. However, this approach may lead to irreversible environmental damage. The distribution networks of agricultural products are largely controlled by intermediary groups who capture the lion’s share of the profits, leaving farmers with minimal returns. Traditionally, farmers in Bangladesh have also faced natural hazards such as floods and droughts, along with man-made issues like shortages of essential inputs, including seeds, fertilizers, and insecticides. This study highlights both the causes and consequences of farmers' reluctance to adopt environmentally sustainable practices, ultimately revealing the economic and ecological challenges they face.
