Abstract

Nanofiltration (NF) membrane technique is a popular way to remove organic matter, color, odor, taste, residual quantities of disinfectants and trace herbicides from large water body. It is successfully applied to food and dairy industries, biotechnology, water, and wastewater treatment and pharmaceutical. It can be used to concentrate whey and for whey treatments. It can also concentrate sugar, dextrose sirup and sugar juice. In the edible oil processing sector, and in cheese and sweetener production, it has been applied for a long time. Moreover, soluble impurities in water and wastewater cannot be reduced by NF. The promising applications and concerns of NF process are discussed.
