This article emphasizes the urgent need for Bangladesh to accelerate its industrialization process to achieve sustainable economic growth. Prof. Dr. M. Azizur Rahman argues that relying solely on agriculture is insufficient for a densely populated nation and that a shift toward labor-intensive and export-oriented industries is vital. He highlights the potential of specific industrial zones, such as the Dhaka and Bogra regions, but warns that growth is currently stifled by "bottlenecks" in gas, electricity, and transport infrastructure. The author recommends that the government provide policy support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and light engineering sectors to diversify the export basket beyond ready-made garments. Ultimately, the author posits that rapid industrialization is the most effective path to mass employment and poverty alleviation.
