This article, written by Prof. Dr. M. Azizur Rahman and published in The New Nation in 2011, examines the economic disparities and infrastructural deficits in Northern Bangladesh (North Bengal). Despite its significant contribution to the country’s agricultural output, the region lags behind in industrialization and service sectors. The author highlights several critical bottlenecks, including inadequate gas and electricity supply, poor transport links, and a lack of financial investment. To bridge this gap, the article proposes large-scale infrastructure projects, such as a second Jamuna bridge, coal exploration in Dinajpur, and the expansion of the Ruppur Nuclear Plant, to foster balanced national development
