| dc.description.abstract | In this article, Prof. Dr. M. Azizur Rahman addresses the critical gap between school enrollment and the actual quality of educational infrastructure in Bangladesh. While acknowledging the country’s success in increasing primary school attendance, the author argues that "proper schooling" is currently hindered by a lack of basic facilities, including adequate classrooms, sanitary facilities, and modern learning tools. Drawing from his perspective as both an economist and an academic leader, Rahman posits that a school's physical and psychological environment is directly linked to a child's cognitive development and future productivity. He emphasizes that "schooling" must go beyond mere literacy to include character building and technical orientation. The text calls for a decentralized approach to education funding, urging the government and private sector to invest in the rural school infrastructure to prevent the "brain drain" to urban centers and to ensure that children from all socio-economic backgrounds have access to a standardized level of educational excellence. | |
