Sabrina Rashid Sheonty is a civil engineering consultant and researcher by profession. She works in the Water, sanitation and health (WASH) sector. Her professional experience in
the global environment as well as in Bangladesh is unique. While pursuing a BSc in BUET, she founded an engineering start-up Tetra, a water-based solutions startup in
Bangladesh. After graduation,she moved to Canada to pursue an MSc in Civil Engineering at the University of Alberta. Currently, she is working as a water resources engineer in
Matrix Solutions Inc., Canada- a renowned consulting company in North America. She is also serving as Director at Tetra, Bangladesh. As a young entrepreneur, she has received
numerous prestigious awards. Recently her company Tetra has won a silver prize from the International Water Association (IWA). She is also the Young Professional Chair of the
Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE).

Uttara University honours July 2024 Movement martyrs, injured participants

This news article reports on Uttara University's tribute to the martyrs and injured participants of the July 2024 Movement. The university organized a commemorative program to honour those who sacrificed their lives and those who sustained injuries during the movement. The event brought together university authorities, faculty members, students, and staff to pay their respects and acknowledge the significance of the movement in Bangladesh's recent history. Speakers emphasized the values of courage, justice, democracy, and national unity, highlighting the role of young people in advocating for social change. The program included remembrance activities, expressions of solidarity with the victims and their families, and a reaffirmation of the university's commitment to preserving the legacy of the July 2024 Movement. The article documents Uttara University's institutional recognition of the movement and its efforts to promote historical awareness, civic responsibility, and respect for those who contributed to the nation's democratic aspirations.
Feasibility study of floating solar photovoltaic systems using techno-economic assessment and multi-criteria decision-making method: A case study of Bangladesh

Many developing countries with abundant solar resources and rich history of agriculture, face overpopulation and land shortage issues. Floating solar photovoltaics (FSPVs) do not compete with agriculture for land and offer higher energy potential than land-based photovoltaics (LBPVs). For feasibility and site suitability evaluation of FSPVs, this study proposes an integrated approach of techno-economic assessment (TEA) and multi-criteria decision making (MCDM), based on a case study of Bangladesh. The system advisor model (SAM) was used to conduct TEA, evaluating the potential of nine FSPV sites on a regional scale using ten criteria. Combined compromise solution (CoCoSo) was implemented to determine the optimum site. Bergobindopur lake was ranked top, with the highest energy yield and lowest cost of energy of 1564 kWh/kW and $0.055/kWh respectively. Case study of Bergobindopur revealed buy-all-sell-all electricity tariff was more profitable than net billing and net metering. Energy generation was found to be influenced by tilt angle and soiling. Sensitivity analyses demonstrated the superiority of FSPVs over LBPVs for varying electricity prices, degradation and discount rates, project durations, and investor's equities. Longer project durations and lower equities resulted in higher profits for investors. The proposed approach contributes to the expansion of FSPV in land-constrained areas.
A comprehensive study on geometric shape optical soliton solutions to the time-factional nonlinear Schrödinger-Hirota equation

In this study, we investigate the analytical soliton solutions of a fundamental model, namely the nonlinear Schrödinger-Hirota equation, in the context of beta time-fractional derivative. We adopt the (ω′/ω, 1/ω)-expansion method, which is a reliable and straightforward approach to extract fresh and general soliton solutions in terms of hyperbolic, trigonometric, and rational functions. The solitons include anti-kink, anti-bell-shaped, bell-shaped, and periodic solitons. These solitons have significant applications in various scientific fields, such as optical fiber communications, signal processing, plasma physics, and trans-oceanic data transfer. This study demonstrates the significance of fractional-order differentiation in revealing new solitons. We also provide a comprehensive comparison with existing literature in normal and anomalous dispersion regions, highlighting the uniqueness of the solutions. Moreover, the graphical representations are used to illustrate the properties and potential applications of these solitons. This research might contribute to the advancement of nonlinear optical research and technology.
