Uttara University marks women’s day with panel on women’s safety.

Abstract

Uttara University marked International Women's Day 2026 with a programme at its multipurpose hall on Monday, 9 March, from 10:00am to 12:00pm. The event brought together guests, academics, professionals and students to celebrate women's achievements and discuss issues related to women's safety and empowerment. The programme began with a welcome address highlighting the significance of International Women's Day and the need to ensure equality and respect for women in all spheres of society. A group recitation of Kazi Nazrul Islam's poem Nari was performed by Bangla department lecturers Shovon Chakravarty, Md Abdul Hakim, Md Amit Hasan Shohag and Saifullah Munsur. Barrister Rashna Imam, senior advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, attended as chief guest. Special guests included Supriya Rani Das, academic and ICC match referee; Kyaw Sein Thay Dolly, managing director of Cloths "R" Us Ltd; Professor Saima Feroze, academic and international shooting sports judge/jury; and Ulfat Jahan Moon, managing director of Aichi Healthcare Group. Speaking at the event, Barrister Rashna Imam stressed the importance of ensuring women's safety and dignity in society. She said, "Moral policing against women must stop. A woman's freedom, choices and dignity should not be controlled or questioned by society. True progress will come when women are respected as equal citizens."
