20 students injured as Uttara University bus overturns in Gazipur.

Abstract

At least 20 students were injured after a bus carrying students of Uttara University overturned on the Dhaka–Mymensingh Highway at the Rajendrapur intersection in Gazipur this afternoon. Md Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Joydebpur Sadar Police Station, told The Daily Star that the accident occurred when the driver lost control of the bus, causing it to overturn on the highway. Police rushed to the scene and took part in the rescue operation, the OC said. The seriously injured students were sent to Al Hera Hospital in Maona and nearby healthcare facilities for treatment, he added. There were no potholes or roadside ditches at the accident site, and authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, the police officer said. Locals and eyewitnesses said more than 50 students were on board the bus. They were travelling from Uttara to Mymensingh to attend a picnic.
